Vanderbilt defense comes up big in win over Kentucky

Needing to run the table to keep its bowl hopes alive, Vanderbilt leaned on its highly-touted defense, which turned three turnovers into 14 points as the Commodores topped visiting Kentucky, 21-17.

Twice, Derek Mason's defense came up big in the red zone. And while Kentucky shuffled between quarterbacks Patrick Towles and Drew Barker, Vandy got very efficient play out of true freshman Kyle Shurmur. He finished 13-of-26 for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Towles and Barker each threw interceptions, while Barker had the lone passing touchdown.
