Chad Kelly took his final snap at Ole Miss on Saturday. It wasn’t the ending he envisioned when he signed two years ago, nor was it the one he deserved.
It started out like any other play. He took the snap, dropped back and flicked a pass in the direction of Damore'ea Stringfellow. The ball fell incomplete in part because as he let it go, there was a Georgia Southern defender in his face who put him on his back. He walked off the field under his own power, but an MRI the next day showed that the senior quarterback had torn both his ACL and lateral meniscus.
