Henry Wingo is, once again, one step away from becoming the first Washingtonian to play for a UEFA Champions League team. Last year, Wingo was a regular starter for Norway’s Molde when they went all the way to the Champions League playoff round, where they fell to Hungary’s Ferencvaros.
Apparently impressed by Wingo’s play, Ferencvaros acquired Wingo in a transfer valued at around $850,000 last January. Wingo went on to make 12 appearances for Ferencvaros, playing about 600 minutes to help them win the Hungarian top flight.
Given a full offseason, Wingo has established himself as a starter for the Hungarian power and has played all 540 minutes during their Champions League qualifying quest.
