The United States U-23 men’s national team will host the second leg of its Olympic qualifying series against Colombia on March 29 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, the federation announced Tuesday in a release.
The first leg of the home-and-home series to decide a berth at this summer’s Rio Games is scheduled for March 25th in Barranquilla, Colombia. The U.S. U-23s could have qualified with a victory over Honduras in the semifinals of the CONCACAF qualifying tournament last October, instead having to beat Canada in the third-place game to even keep their fledging hopes alive.
Most pertinent for the Sounders, given that new signing Jordan Morris is likely to feature prominently on the U-23s, the series falls in a dead period of Seattle’s schedule between the March 19th game against the Whitecaps and the home match versus Montreal on April 2.
