On May 11th the 102nd Lamar Hunt US Open Cup gets underway. In the Puget Sound that means PDL side Sounders U23s get to host California club Outbreak FC.
Outbreak is based out of Long Beach/Huntington Beach where they host adult and youth teams. Their team earned a chance at the Open Cup through local qualifying, beating San Pedro Monsters FC and Buena Park FC. These are truly plucky amateurs.
Darren Sawatzky's U23s will be in training, but will have not yet played any PDL matches. Their first league match is on May 22nd against Crossfire.
