Seattle Sounders right back Tyrone Mears learned on Wednesday that he has been fined by the MLS Disciplinary Committee. He was fined for violating the league’s policy regarding hands to the face/head/neck of an opponent.
The incident took place in the eighth minute of the match against Real Salt Lake. After a foul had been called against Seattle, Salt Lake forward Joao Plata was seen talking to referee Baldomero Toledo and asking for a yellow card to be issued.
As this was going on, Mears walked up behind Plata and “slapped” him in the back of the head.
