PORTLAND, Ore. — There isn’t a team in the world Clint Dempsey seems to take more joy in scoring against than the Portland Timbers. He did it again on Sunday, and this one may have stung the worst.
Dempsey’s 94th minute header -- from a Roman Torres cross, no less — allowed the Seattle Sounders to escape with a point despite playing the entire second half down a man. Brad Evans was sent off in the 44th minute for effectively denying a goal-scoring opportunity, which also led to a penalty and allowed the Timbers to equalize.
