The Seattle Sounders won’t have much time to get over the Leagues Cup hangover they are likely suffering from. Today’s match against Sporting KC is arguably the biggest of the regular season, as a Sounders win would catapult them back into first place in the Western Conference while a loss would leave them four points back.
This is the second meeting between the two teams this year, with Sporting KC scoring a 3-1 win at Lumen Field on July 25. A short-handed Sounders side was undone by several regrettable errors in that one.
The Sounders had come into that game 9-1-5, but have gone just 4-4-1 in the regular season since then and effectively fallen out of the Supporters’ Shield race.
