Every season ends. For the San Jose Earthquakes, that ending came sometime in June, probably around the time they looked their best, drawing three matches in a row. Sure, they’ve won two games since then, but they also fired their coach, replaced him with an interim coach and hired next year’s coach who can’t do anything this season. San Jose is over.
Seattle Sounders are not over. They continue to the second season, with seeding still to be determined. If they win they are assured of the three seed, and could take second with an FC Dallas loss or draw.
