The Seattle Sounders will celebrate their second-annual Pride Day during June 25’s nationally televised, full-stadium match against New York City FC at CenturyLink Field.
As part of the promotion, pride flags will be distributed to the first 50,000 fans. Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, who in 2013 became the city’s first openly gay mayor, is set to receive a Golden Scarf.
“We are looking forward to celebrating Seattle’s LGBTQ community on June 25, and we are equally excited to recognize Mayor Murray with a Golden Scarf,” Sounders majority owner Adrian Hanauer said in the club release. “Pride is a central part of our city’s culture, and we’re eager to support the community surrounding our match against New York City FC.
