Sporting Kansas City coach Peter Vermes has watched his team’s dramatic shootout victory in the 2013 MLS Cup final only once, and only then by accessory at a celebration party that had highlights streaming in the background.
“I have a pretty good recorder in my head. I don’t really need to use those,” Vermes explained this week.
“I just don’t go back, whether it’s a win or a loss. Our sport is so next-game that that’s where you have to spend your energy and focus.”
Kansas City’s knockout round loss to the Portland Timbers in last year’s MLS Cup playoffs provided Vermes with a few additional reasons to avoiding look over his shoulder.
