Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan has been contacted by the Guatemalan national team about representing the Central American country internationally, he confirmed Wednesday following practice at Starfire Sports Complex.
Roldan, a native of Southern California, has represented the United States at the U-20 level but is also eligible for the Guatemala and El Salvador national teams through his parents.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder has started 15 games in his second season with the Sounders, establishing himself as a trusted regular and scoring two goals in the team’s past four matches. Roldan has previously indicated a willingness to wait for the USMNT to come calling but that his thinking has “altered a little bit” over the past year.
