Sounders midfielder Erik Friberg has suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament, Seattle coach Sigi Schmid confirmed Monday, though the timetable for his return remains unclear.
Friberg suffered the injury tackling Real Salt Lake’s Jordan Allen early in Seattle’s 1-0 loss at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday. Second-year mid Cristian Roldan will most likely fill in during Friberg’s absence.
The rest of the injury news was more positive. Forward Nelson Valdez suffered a bruised quad late in Saturday’s match, but nothing more serious.
