How fitting for the Sounders that one of their biggest international victories came with huge assist from a local product.
The Sounders hope this CONCACAF Champions League tournament demonstrates just how far they’ve come in relation to teams from other nations. Part of that growth is homegrown talent, demonstrated on the winning goal of Wednesday night’s 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Mexican side Chivas by Lake Forest Park product Henry Wingo.
The former University of Washington standout came on as a second-half substitute and in the 78th minute sent a perfect cross Clint Dempsey’s way. Dempsey took the ball unguarded from 12 yards out and fired a shot to the right of Chivas goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota into the net.
