SEATTLE, WASH. - Seattle Sounders FC and Washington Green Schools are collaborating to celebrate Earth Day at Sylvester Middle School on Wednesday, April 19. Eighth grade students, along with Sounders FC Head Coach Brian Schmetzer, team staff and volunteers from Starbucks, are set to complete a rain garden on campus between 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The project, facilitated by Washington Green Schools, installs a new cistern that is fed by gutters from the roof of the school library and funnels water into the rain garden. Students and volunteers are also planting native ground cover and shrubs in the school's courtyard, as well as completing portable murals that depict the local ecosystem and watershed in collaboration with the Sylvester community.
