TUKWILA, Wash. – Seattle Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan said Wednesday that he has been in contact with the head coach of the Guatemalan national team about the possibility of playing with the team in the near future.
Although Roldan was born in California, he is eligible to play for Guatemala through his father, who was born there before emigrating to the United States. Roldan has never been capped at any level for the U.S. and said Wednesday he was potentially considering switching allegiances to Guatemala if the right opportunity arises.
“I spoke a little bit with [Guatemala head coach Walter Claverí], he thinks I’m playing well,” Roldan said.
