Major League Soccer announced Thursday that the league’s Disciplinary Committee has fined Seattle Sounders defender Tyrone Mears and undisclosed amount for an incident during the team’s win over Real Salt Lake in the regular season finale on Sunday.
Mears was fined for violating the league's policy regarding hands to the face/head/neck of an opponent in the eighth minute of Seattle's 2-1 win over RSL. Mears made contact with the face of RSL forward Joao Plata.
Mears will not face any additional disciplinary action for the incident and will be eligble to play when the Sounders host Sporting Kansas City in the Western Conference Knockout Round at CenturyLink Field on Thursday (7 p.
