The Cheney Stadium era of Reign FC began on Sunday night with the club hosting Orlando Pride in front of 5,323 fans to a 1-1 draw.
There was something special in the air as the club had been looking forward to this evening ever since January when they announced their move to Tacoma, leaving Memorial Stadium, their home for the past five seasons. There was pomp and circumstance, fans were happy to finally see their team up close, oh and there were fireworks for the player walkouts and national anthem.
The fireworks weren’t just in the opening ceremonies, but also on the field as Orlando struck first in the sixth minute when Orlando won a free kick and in the scrum, defender Alanna Kennedy pulled the bicycle kick special to find the back of the net.
