The Reign join most (but not all) of the rest of the NWSL in fielding teams in the new nationwide Academy system, set to kick off in fall 2017.
Today US Soccer officially announced the roster of clubs that will participate in the new national Girls’ Development Academy — scheduled to start play in the fall of 2017 — and that group includes the newly created Seattle Reign Academy.
Seattle is one of six of the ten NWSL teams participating, joining southern rivals Portland Thorns and Boston, Washington, Sky Blue, and Orlando on the East coast.
