Just when it seemed like the book had been closed on the Seattle Sounders’ pursuit of Brazilian defensive midfielder Gregore, it appears negotiations are back underway.
Sounder at Heart’s Niko Moreno has learned that the Sounders are one of two teams still bidding for the 25-year-old’s services. The other team is believed to be Brazilian.
Transfermarkt estimates Gregore’s value to be a little over $1 million, but even if that’s an underestimation it’s entirely possible the Sounders could bring him in without making him a Designated Player. Assuming a $2 million transfer fee and a three-year guaranteed contract, existing rules Gregore could command an annual salary of about $835,000 and still fall below the $1.
