The New York Cosmos may rise from the ashes again, despite shedding talent and staff during the recent turmoil (and missing paychecks). Rocco B. Commisso, former Columbia University soccer star and owner of a large cable TV company, is ready to throw down cash for the club.
This could also be enough to save NASL, as eight teams might be just enough to be considered a Division II league, at least if they get a one-year waiver from US Soccer for exemption from the usual 12-team minimum. Commisso's purchase of the club reportedly hinges on that second-division sanctioning, so the deal is not completely sorted yet.
