Longtime Seattle Sounders defender Leo Gonzalez, who had played for the club since the middle of its inaugural season, has signed a contract with CS Herediano in his native Costa Rica, the Sounders announced Tuesday in a release.
Gonzalez appeared in 137 regular season games for Seattle, third-most in club history, and played in 13 postseason matches. The 35-year-old made his final Sounders start in the team’s 3-2 victory over the defending champion L.A. Galaxy in the knockout round of the playoffs back in October. Gonzalez finished his Seattle career with four assists and two goals, including a memorable strike off the bench during a 3-0 rout of Dallas earlier this summer.
