The list put out by Washington Youth Soccer on Thursday of the best male players in the organization’s 50-year history reads like a genealogy of professional soccer in Seattle.
The selections start with Jimmy McAlister, the 1977 NASL Rookie of the Year with the original Sounders, and end with Jordan Morris, a frontrunner for this year’s MLS ROY honor. Chance Fry, Brent Goulet, Peter Hattrup, Chris Henderson, Brian Schmetzer, Jeff Stock and Wade Webber all suited up for FC Seattle, the semipro team that helped keep the flame burning between professional eras — and most played a role in coaching and local youth development once their careers were over.
