Gustav Svensson made official on Saturday what has long been assumed when he announced on Instagram that “it’s time for us to go our separate ways.” Svensson had spent the last four seasons with the Seattle Sounders, going from an extremely fringe Swedish national team player to one who was regularly starting for them in their biggest competitions.
More relevantly to the Sounders, Svensson established himself not only as a regular starter but as one of the best holding midfielders in MLS. Svensson was regularly among league leaders in tackles, was an effective passer and even was capable of scoring when needed.
