Gonzalo Pineda will likely be returning to the Seattle Sounders bench after reportedly being passed over for the D.C. United head coaching job. With Brian Schmetzer reportedly having agreed to terms on a new contract, Pineda’s status was the biggest question mark in terms of keeping the coaching staff intact.
Pineda had been one of several finalists for the position, joining the likes of former New York Red Bulls coach Chris Armas and former USWNT manager Jill Ellis. There are also indications that former U.S. international Steve Cherundolo could be under consideration for the job.
