The story of the Iron Front flag controversy should be reasonably familiar to readers of this site. We’ve covered it pretty extensively from the first time it appeared at CenturyLink Field to the 33-minute silent protest to the agreement to allow to fly without punishment.
While it’s an interesting story on its own merits, what I found fascinating about it is how it captured the attention of the national soccer media and even forced MLS to bargaining table. No one has done more to cover this from a national perspective than ESPNFC’s Jeff Carlisle, who was the only reporter to be stalking the hotel lobby while MLS and the various supporters groups were negotiating what turned into an agreement to revise the fan code of conduct and to at least temporarily lift the ban on the Iron Font flag.
