Somewhat surprisingly, Cristian Roldan has been left off the United States’ roster for the upcoming Nations League finals. Although Roldan was not invited to the European camp beforehand, it still seemed like a reasonable conclusion that he was simply left off due to the Seattle Sounders having a match on the same day as the Switzerland friendly.
Turns out, USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter just doesn’t see him as part of what appears to be his A-team that apparently includes other MLS midfielders like Sebastian Lletget, Kelyn Acosta and Jackson Yuiell. Roldan has arguably been the MLS MVP through the first six weeks of the season, but has not had a breakout performance in his 20 previous USMNT caps.
