Clint Dempsey's brace against Portland Timbers sets new mark in Cascadia rivalry

SEATTLE – Clint Dempsey is the ultimate Portland Timbers killer.

With his two-goal performance in the Seattle Sounders’ 3-1 win over the Timbers at CenturyLink Field on Sunday night, Dempsey now has eight career goals against the Timbers, more than any Sounders player has ever scored against another opponent in the team’s MLS franchise history.

Dempsey converted a penalty kick in the 61st minute and then buried a left-footed shot past Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson in the 80th minute to spark the Sounders’ win, their third in as many games.
