As a kid growing up in Paris, centuries ago, I devoured every hour of televised sports the tube had to offer. Frequently, it seemed like events were seeking me out instead of the other way around. Brimming with special vividness to this day are France’s bittersweet run through the 1986 FIFA World Cup, plus just about every Roland Garros French Open final from the 80s (go John McEnroe, Michael Chang, Andre Agassi, but never Ivan Lendl).
