The play call itself was simple: With the Seahawks celebrating their 40th NFL season, pick the top 40 players in team history.
As is often the case in football, though, the execution proved more difficult.
Since 1976, roughly 1,000 players have taken part in at least one Seahawks regular-season game. You are forgiven, for instance, if you have forgotten that the first offensive play in team history was a run for no gain by Andrew Bolton, a fourth-round pick in 1976 out of Memphis whose Seattle career lasted just five games.
