The Seattle Seahawks will release former starting cornerback Cary Williams.
NFL Media's Ian Rapoport first reported news of Williams' release on Monday, which was confirmed to seattlepi.com by the a source close to the team.
The 30-year-old Williams signed a three-year, $18 million free agent deal in March to replace Byron Maxwell as Seattle's starting cornerback opposite Richard Sherman, but after starting the team's first 10 games, Williams has been inactive the past two weeks.
Fourth-year pro DeShawn Shead started in Williams' place in Seattle's wins over the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings, with Williams falling behind Jeremy Lane and Marcus Burley in the cornerback rotation.
