Seattle coach Pete Carroll said the team no longer needed Cary Williams after Jeremy Lane showed he could return from injury and DeShawn Shead proved he could play cornerback. He also talked about the recovery of Marshawn Lynch, and more.
Seattle coach Pete Carroll said the emergence of DeShawn Shead and the return of Jeremy Lane helped lead to Monday’s decision to release veteran cornerback Cary Williams.
Williams was inactive the past two weeks after starting the first 10 games of the season after being signed to a three-year, $18 million contract with $7 million guaranteed. Lane returned from ACL and wrist injuries suffered in the Super Bowl and has played the last two weeks, while Shead took over the starting job once Williams was benched against the 49ers.
