Seahawks will release DeShawn Shead to let him become a free agent, but want him back as cornerback position get hazier

The Seahawks plan to release cornerback DeShawn Shead, his agent said Saturday afternoon. But they also still want him back and hope to re-sign him soon.

The reason the Seahawks are releasing Shead is in part to live up to a promise that the team made to him that he would become a free agent at the end of this season, which he played on a one-year contract for $1.05 million.

The NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement the Seahawks could have enforced a clause that would kept Shead under contract for the 2018 season because he was not activated off the Physically Unable to Perform List until after the sixth game of the season.
