Seahawks waive TE Chase Coffman, have two open roster spots

The Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday waived tight end Chase Coffman, who had been with the team for a week without playing in a game.

Coffman was signed by the team last week to add depth at tight end in the wake of a season-ending injury to Jimmy Graham. But Coffman was inactive for Sunday’s game at Minnesota.

His waiving means the Seahawks now have two openings on their 53-man roster — the other became open Monday when the team released cornerback Cary Williams. Williams on Tuesday cleared waivers and is now a free agent.

Coach Pete Carroll on Monday was vague about what the team would do with the roster spot opening created by Williams’ release other than to say that it would allow the team to fill a need.
