That doesn’t mean, by the way, to forget about the team rankings and the star ratings that are now a ubiquitous part of the process. While there are notable exceptions, lots of studies (such as those detailed here) have proven that the players rated as five stars have a higher percentage of turning out to be big-time producers than two- or one-star recruits, and that the schools who sign the highest-rated classes have a better chance at success than those who don’t.
