Seahawks rookie Malik McDowell injured in vehicular accident

RENTON -- Malik McDowell, the Seattle Seahawks top pick in the 2017 draft, was absent from training camp Sunday due to what the team announced is an injury from a vehicular accident that could put the defensive end's rookie campaign in doubt.

The accident happened "a couple weeks" ago, according to coach Pete Carroll, who wasn't sure whether the injury would sideline McDowell long-term. McDowell, selected with the 35th overall pick, is at home in Michigan being treated by physicians, as a precautionary measure.

"We're really hoping that he has a really good recovery." Carroll said outside the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
