For the first time this season a Seahawk has been honored as NFC Player of the Week, with punter Jon Ryan winning the special teams award for his performance against the New York Jets.
Ryan had five punts for a 40.6 yards average. More telling, he also had a 40.6-yard net average as none of his punts were returned, with four down inside the 20.
Notably, Ryan had a 56-yard punt following Seattle’s first possession of the third quarter which pinned the ets at their own 8. New York was quickly forced to punt and Seattle took over at its own 45 and drove for a field goal that put the Seahawks ahead 17-10.
