Seahawks officially release DT Jarran Reed

After the Seattle Seahawks acquired offensive lineman Gabe Jackson in trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, the acquisitions they had already made, and were about to make required them to make tough decisions when it came to the salary cap. First they dipped into void years, making use of the cap space of future seasons on deals with Gerald Everett, Benson Mayowa, Chris Carson, Kery Hyder and others, but reports late Thursday emerged that the Hawks were on the verge of bringing back defensive end Carlos Dunlap. That signing, and the associated price tag, required more cap maneuvering than simply putting void years into the contract, and that shed some light on the social media messages of 2016 second round pick Jarran Reed from earlier in the day.
