The Seahawks on Tuesday officially re-signed cornerback Byron Maxwell, the team announced.
It had been previously reported that Maxwell had agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million with incentives.
The re-signing of Maxwell — the agreement of which occurred just before the draft — helped to explain why the Seahawks didn’t take a corner higher in the draft, something that a few analysts have questioned.
Seattle took one cornerback, Tre Flowers of Oklahoma State in the fifth round. Mostly a safety in college, the Seahawks have said Flowers will try cornerback first.
A lot of mock drafts had Seattle going with a cornerback in the first round.
