RENTON -- In the offseason, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll called backup safety Kelcie McCray a "really nice player," while cornerback Richard Sherman dubbed him a "core member" of the team. After Sunday's 6-6 tie with the Arizona Cardinals, Seahawks fans might want to refer to him as a game-saver, or perhaps "iron man," as Carroll did on Monday.
Sunday's game was McCray's second straight start in relief of an injured Kam Chancellor. A week after playing some part in a couple of blown coverages that allowed the Atlanta Falcons to score 21 third-quarter points, McCray participated in a game-high 108 plays, including 95 on defense, on a hot Arizona night with temperatures in the 80s.
