Seahawks hope line's growing pains turn weakness into strength

RENTON -- The Seahawks offensive line was the team's Achilles' heel before they even took the field for the 2016 season, but there are hopes the lumps the unit took this year will result in rapid improvement in 2017.

With new starters at four of the five positions -- the lone holdover being third-year right tackle Garry Gilliam --many observers figured the line would struggle at the beginning of this season before hopefully rounding into shape by the end of the campaign, much like they did in 2015.

They were right about the first half of the equation.
