Seahawks get a visit from Olympian Jeremy Taiwo, which impresses DeShawn Shead

Training camp visits by coaches and athletes from other sports are an almost daily occurrence for the Seahawks.

But the athlete who stopped by Monday — Olympic decathlete Jeremy Taiwo — hit home for defensive back DeShawn Shead.

Taiwo, who grew up in Renton and attended UW, qualified last month for the decathlon.

Shead became a decathlete at Palmdale (Calif.) High, being talked into it after his coaches noted that he was already doing the hurdles and the pole vault. Shead recalled Monday that he was told that he was already doing “the two hardest events” in the decathlon so he may as well just do the whole thing.
