Backup to Derrick Coleman is opening holes for tailbacks and opportunities for himself.
There’s nothing subtle about the game of Seahawks fullback Will Tukuafu.
“He lays the wood,’’ Seattle coach Pete Carroll once said. “Tough as nails.’’
His impact to those watching, however, may at times be harder to decipher. Tukuafu’s only statistics this season are one tackle and one kickoff return for 16 yards.
But Tukuafu’s importance in Thursday’s 20-3 win over the San Francisco 49ers is hard to overstate.
Seattle beat the 49ers employing an offensive style that receiver Doug Baldwin called “Seahawks football,’’ using Marshawn Lynch and a punishing running game to set up play-action passes (such as the 43-yard touchdown to Tyler Lockett that blew the game open in the second quarter).
