This just in: the Pro Football Hall of Fame has revised its eligibility period for coaches from five seasons spent out of the game to one. With Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick both having been relieved of their positions in 2024, this makes eight-time Super Bowl-winning Belichick and, more importantly, Super Bowl 48-demolishing Pete Carroll eligible for enshrinement as early as 2026.
Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick have had their names tied together a lot over the years—from Belichick relieving Carroll of his duties as head coach of the Patriots in 2000 to a certain Super Bowl played in Glendale, Arizona, to both finding themselves jobless at the same time this past year and spending time in Montlake to help their sons coach the Huskies to suddenly finding themselves, both, eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2026.
