Inmates at the Yakima County Jail Annex filed claims that the facility needed $18 million in maintenance, the Yakima Herald reports, in apparent retaliation for being barred from watching the Seattle Seahawks face the Carolina Panthers in the NFL playoffs in January.
Fifteen complaints came from inmates at the same unit of the jail annex, and began pouring in the day after guards took away the inmates’ television privileges Jan. 10 for misbehavior, the Herald’s Phil Ferolito reported Tuesday. While the claims have all since been dismissed, officials had to investigate the complaints despite knowing the Seahawks game was behind them all.
