The Seattle Seahawks successfully kept defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin off the NFL free agent market by agreeing to terms on a new contract Monday night. They may be about to do the same with Rubin's partner along the defensive front.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Seattle is "working to bring back Brandon Mebane" ahead of the league's new year, which begins at 1 p.m. Pacific, when the 31-year-old Mebane will become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.
Mebane is the longest-tenured player on Seattle's roster, starting 125 games for the team after being selected in the third round of the 2007 draft out of California.
