For much of the offseason many fans of the Seattle Seahawks have argued that the team needed to add a third wide receiver and bring in a proven starter at outside cornerback. Monday afternoon reports emerged that the Seahawks were moving to add another name to the competition at wide receiver, but then came word that instead of adding a cornerback, they were releasing one.
The Seahawks are releasing cornerback Saivion Smith, a source tells me. So there's the corresponding roster move.

So, with the roster having filled up to 90 on Friday with the signing of Cameron Scarlett, the team needed to release a player in order to officially add Roberson.
