The referee for Sunday night’s Seattle-Arizona showdown is Clete Blakeman.
And based on recent history, that could be a bad omen for the Seahawks. Seattle doesn’t have a losing record in many categories during the Pete Carroll era, but they do in games in which Blakeman has been the referee, going 1-4.
Two of those were games in Carroll’s first two seasons, when Seattle went 7-9 each year.
And Blakeman has done just one Seattle game since 2012, refereeing Seattle’s loss at San Francisco late in the 2013 season.
If you are looking for good omens, the last time Blakeman did a game at CenturyLink Field was in 2012 when the Seahawks beat New England 24-23.
