Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson's lineage includes both royalty and slaves, according to Harvard historian Henry Louis Gates Jr.
The signal-caller and the professor appeared at a forum in Wilson's hometown of Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday night after Gates, the host of "Finding Your Roots" on PBS, researched the 27-year-old's ancestry ahead of the event.
Gates then presented his finding to a crowd of about 4,500 people, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
According to Gates' research, Wilson's heritage can be traced back to sixth-century France and includes an English king.
"I knew it!" Wilson exclaimed upon the discovery, according to the Times-Dispatch.
