Seattle Seahawks All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman is no stranger to controversy, but he seemed taken aback at the backlash surrounding his decision to invite boxer Floyd Mayweather to play in a charity softball game later this month.
On Wednesday, Sherman announced that welterweight champion Mayweather would attend the cornerback’s annual charity game at Safeco Field on July 19.
Fans immediately expressed their displeasure with the decision to invite Mayweather, who has faced domestic violence charges three times since 2002 and served jail time for a misdemeanor assault charge against a former girlfriend in 2012.
@RSherman_25 Why would you want to associate with a convicted serial woman-beater like him?
